Probably Your problem is solved since months but I got faced with this 'explorer-crash-issue' from time to time... so what's the story? If explorer crashes and the taskbar/desktop dissapears and you kinda don't want to reboot there's a way to get it running again: Hit CTRL+ALT+DEL to get the task manager. Then go file - new task (run) and type 'explorer'. Hit 'enter' and here we go... (Talking 2000/XP, anything older is an only annoyance...)
