I had the same problem and resolved it by doing the following:
1St) In file explorer, Tools, Folder Options check to make sure of the following:
a) Check the check box for "Show hidden Files".
b) Uncheck both checkboxes for: Hide Extensions of Known file types and Hide protected
operating system files.
This will ensure that you will be able to find the file outlined below however, be
sure to recheck these boxes afterwards to
protect them.
2) Go to C:\Windows\Resources\Themes and locate a file: "Luna.theme" and double click
on it.
The appearance screen will come up showing "Windows XP Style". Click on apply.
Note: I also created a short cut to this file on my desktop just incase this happens
again.
I do not know what caused the problem to begin with however, this did fix the problem
for me.
