Additional note : it seems that when you run WinXp SP1 the system tries to maintain
the system file integrity through 2 directories:
x:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386
x:\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache (this one is hidden)
When you delete files from both dirs Windows File Protection tries to recover them
by asking you to insert WinXP SP1-Cd. If you say 'no' then the system stops trying
to recover those files.
So far on my system, using this tip I have been able to delete all WM8 files from
C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player EXCEPT mplayer2.exe which I use extensively.
Best of luck to you all ;-)
