Starting clean and fresh, this should work completely under certain circumstances.
I'm sure a lot of us don't have these circumstances going for us, but it does in
fact work.
1.) The only way to remove Windows Media Player 9 Series without hacking your registry
to pieces is to simply uninstall it using the "Restore Computer" Wizard. (That's
the program that suposedly brings your computer back to a certain date)This will
bring you back to Windows Media Player 8 Series.
2.) From there, open up an Explorer window and then go to Folder Options. Be sure
that you can see your hidden files and system files.
3.) Navigate to your system directory (typically C:\Windows or C:\WINNT) or type
in %Systemroot%\inf
4.) Find the sysoc.inf File and open it. There are several threads of information
all containing the word "HIDE" which hide them from the components listing for Window.
Remove all of the "Hide" words but don't remove the commas.
5.) Restart Windows XP and then go to your Add/Remove Programs in the control Panel.
Scroll down 'til you see Windows Media Player. You'll see the icon that's typically
displayed along with another icon which is the actual program. Uncheck it and then
press "Apply"
You should be set, if you have any questions E-mail me at SpartagusII@earthlink.net
