How many computers are you setting up and what OS are they using? If it's two then all you need is a crossover network cable attached to the network ports of each PC. Run the networking wizard and you should be there - check that the files/drives you want are set to share - in Explorer right click drive or folders and select share More than two then you'll need a router/hub, still reasonably straight forward
