It sounds like there is a cap on the file size they allow you to send
Like he said IrfanView can resize images them easily
Try 1024X768 it is a good compromise between file size and clear detail
Or look on there FAQS (the place your tiring to sent it to) if they impose a size limit it should be stated there
Or you could just try smaller and smaller sizes until you find one it accepts
