Make no mistake about it people, the problem is caused by Norton's Internet Security
2003/Norton's Antivirus 2003. I have a Gravis gamepad and used it everyday along
with a saitek gamepad without any problems. The time came for me to do a fresh install
of XP on July 1st 2003(hard drive was just too full-lol). I did the install on a
freshly formatted NTFS hard drive. I went to windows update and downloaded everything
except for two optional programs(Net.Framework and Windows Journal Viewer). Everything
worked flawlessly up to the point of installing Norton's Internet Security 2003 which
comes packaged with Norton's Antivirus 2003. Right after the install,I began to get
the dwwin.exe problem at restart or shutdown. What's crazy is that I ran NIS2003
and NAV2003 before the fresh install along with the Gravis controller without any
problems just a few days ago. The problem doesn't isn't just the antivirus software,it's
also windows update. I'd rather keep my update to stay safe from attacks more so
than keeping Norton software. Norm's fix does work, but it causes conflicts in other
areas for some people(controller calibration not working,Norton detecting it as an
error, and etc.). It's not the Gravis controller in itself either, because I used everything
together before. Grxp4exe.exe has always started up with the system without any problems
until Norton's software or windows updates. Go figure.
