Many Vaio F series machines develop a problem that seems APM-related, but power management actually only provides the symptom. After booting up successfully (or, in extreme cases, not at all), APM senses that the system is overheating, and puts the processor to sleep. The solution is a rework of the processor board (not the mother board) to install components with greater heat tolerance.
