The advice below does not work. Messenger is NOT listed in startup.
I have gone to Messenger and made sure it is not setup to start at startup...but
it does anyway.
It doest NOT show on my task bar. It does NOT show in Windows Task Manager.
It does NOT show in MSCONFIG startup...
My only feeling is that it is a recent change to my OS via one the dozens and dozens
of updates that are always always always "needed for security reasons", done covertly
by MS to force us to use this forever annoying pieces of intrusive garbage.
