The method Rob described will not work with IE6 and XP.  It does work with most previous 
editions of Windows, however.

The way to repair IE is described in the following MS KB article:

How to Reinstall 
or Repair Internet Explorer and Outlook Express in Windows XP

My advice is to do the first step in Method 1, and if that does not work, skip the 
repair reinstallation of XP and use Method 2.
