The fax service is done over the regular phone line (the same as a regular fax machine) through a modem installed on/in your computer, not through the DSL connection. This means that your computer needs a connection to the phone line (with a filter usually) and to the DSL connection. To go through the DSL connection (which I'm not sure the fax service can even do) you would have to use third party fax software to connect to an external fax service (a company that will forward the fax though an email or a phone line to the receiving party that would have a fax machine or computer). An alternative method would be to create the fax in Windows, save it as a file and email it to the receiving party who then could open it with a viewer of the same fax program or the Windows built-in service. If you were adding the fax service to windows, you probably needed to point to the I386 directory and open it on the CD. Sometimes Windows will indicate that it can't find a file because it gets confused for some odd reason. You can do a search for the file through the search option on the CD to see if that file exists, write down the location if found, and try adding the fax service again. It won't be an the A:\ drive because a CD is not a floppy, so you need to point to the CD ROM drive and the I386 directory. On the other hand if the drivers for a fax modem were on a floppy, then you would need the floppy. Don't have an XP CD handy right at the moment so can't search it for you. Good Luck! C K
