All your ideas have been valid and useful, but the one I found at the very end was to locate the NoDriveTypeAutorun and simply delete the value (it was set as ff which disables all drives), find it as follows: HKCU\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
