One of the "fixes" I found was to boot in safe mode and remove the video drive.
Then boot normal which should bring XP up in VGA mode. At that point I installed
the newest driver I could get. In my case I had the latest from the card maker and
the latest from NVidia. They were slightly different versions. Niether seemed to
fix the problem completly, just for a few boots. I also disabled every service I
did not want and unistalled everything I did not use. I did this very aggresivily
and had to re-add some things.
At some point I seem to have fixed the problem, but I think it will return.
