More info on RPC hack attempts

Here's the official MS blurb on this:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=823980
We were, just as you, getting slammed every time we reconnected. That's why we disabled
the RPC service -- to give us enough time to download the patch. So if you don't
have enough time to download it before you get the RPC screen of death again, there
are two things you can do:
1) disable your RPC service, and then come back to Anton's message to get your system
back after you've downloaded and installed the patch; or
2) set the time-to-shutdown-after-failure option for RPC to something greater than
1 minute (the default) to give you time to complete the download. I suppose this
gives the hacker more time for what they want as well.
Both options are implemented via control panel / administrative tools / services,
right-click on RPC entry, then follow the screens. (Sorry I'm not more hands-on descriptive
here; it's real late here in the Netherlands and I'm going to bed now that I finally
have a taskbar and a PC that starts up in less than two hours again :-) ).
