re: windows update not working Wednesday, August 13, 2003 at 11:58 pm Windows XP Annoyances Discussion Forum Posted by Jon (2 messages posted) That makes at least 7 of us having this problem when attempting to follow the Microsoft workaround for the Update.inf/cryptographic svcs error. The suggested workaround is: 1. Stop cryptographic services 2. Rename (or delete) c:\windows\system32\catroot2 folder 3. Restart crypto svcs 4. Now attempt to install the patch again. Does not work. When you start Step 4, the catroot2 folder is re-created, causing the install to fail again. Sure hope someone can figure this one out! (and let us know!)
