This sounds like a power management problem, doesn't it? I would suggest turning
off all forms of automatic power management until you can track down the problem.
That includes the BIOS and XP.
I had a problem with my machine freezing while the screen was turned off (under APM)
and I had blamed it on the video driver. But, after turning off the APM features,
it transpired that the modem card was freezing every time I received a phone call!
So, my advice is, be suspicious all the drivers. Install the latest drivers from
the manufacturers' web sites.
Good luck!
