The sweet and short is:
If you have existing ASP Pages , designed and running on IIS or PWS. There is no
windows solution for XP Home Edition.
all the solutions provided here (except the IIS hack for XP Home, a bad idea) will
allow you to create new asp pages in a non microsoft IIS compatible format, ie they
probably won't work on your hosting companies windows servers, your existing pages
are lost. You cannot work on them.
The only solution, and it's more expensive than upgrading to XP Pro is :
Download Apache: I Love the pre-configured Indigoperl Server, and Sun-One Asp. Sun
One is the only microsoft compatible Apache ASP Solution. But it certainly ain't
cheap.
It's worth it if you wanna desert microsoft for their low blow of removing PWs or
IIS from XP HE which came standard on my new PC.
Apache is free
MySql is Free
Php is Free
Sun One ASP costs in the region of $499
The end result is a truly cross platform server, that runs PHP and ASP on windows
HE.
If you don't wanna change to Apache and Pay for Sun One ASP, you have no other choice
but to upgrade to WIN XP PRO.
Alternatively, Purchase SQL Server packages and download ASP.NET matrix web server
.
I am still trying one or two solutions, but am about to begrudgingly purchase XP
PRO.
