I realize that this is coming to you late but here is the simply way to setup a 2
pc network. But it might help some one else.
1. Set the NIC IP address on the gateway to 192.168.0.1. The subnet mask should pop
in as 255.255.255.0. You will need to use ipconfig to find out what DNS servers your
internet connection is using, after finding these numbers add them to the DNS line.
Make sure Client for Microsoft Networks and File and Print sharing are checked (insure
that these two items are not checked on the nic that is suppling the internet connection.
2. On the client, give the nic an address of 192.168.0.2, subnet mask of 255.255.255.0.
The default gateway needs to be 192.168.0.1. DNS will only have one entry of 192.168.01.
On the client set the internet options to 192.168.01 in HTTP only.
3. Keep in mind that you must use a crossover cable for this setup. After you have
the pc's wired just open a command prompt and type "ping 192.168.0.2" on the gateway
and "ping 192.168.0.1" on the client you should get a fast response. Hope this helps.
