Although I have floppies with 10-year old data in them that still work, I cannot say they are reliable storage. If your purpose is long term storage, I suggest CD-Rs. If your intention is to transfer files between computers, buy a USB minidrive. I bought one capable of storing 256 MB for $49. The one model which can hold 128 MB sells for $29. They are both USB 2.0 which will work also with USB 1. A little longer than a thumb, it can be attached to a keychain. Very easy to use. You have seen one, haven't you?
