I had this problem, not from an optical mouse, I am really not sure why. Either
way, when I would open up IE that is when the mayhem would begin. I read through
this forum, tried some tactics. I deleted the dwwin.exe and it's associated files
(other dwwin files) including the reg. Then windows was going crazy. I then uninstalled
the two windows update files from remove programs like it stated earlier in this
thread (XP Q817606 and XP KB823559 are the files mentioned to uninstall). Then I
was back to square one, only without a message box popping up. So I did a ctrl alt
del, and saw a file that kept appearing and disappearing, each time it would take
out the other programs with it (except the ctrl alt del box) and the taskbar would
appear and disappear with it. The file was called msnijb I then found it, deleted
it and it's registry file and now it works fine. I hope that helps.
