I checked the current BIOS offered for my motherboard (Biostar M7VIT Pro) at the
maker's website and there was an update to address this specific issue with the nVidia
FX5600 chipset, which is my current GPU.
After flashing the motherboard BIOS, it now works like a charm.
Changing the adapter driver, AGP version, and the multitude of other suggested fixes
didn't solve the problem.
So format a floppy and consider flashing the BIOS.
I'm a happy Counterstriker again!
