sound device error

sound device error

i have xp with soundmax integrated digital, but when i try to play any music files 
or films, windows media player give me this error

Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound 
device. There may not be a sound device installed on your computer, it may be in 
use by another program, or it may not be functioning properly.

device manager is showing that this device is ok

whats is going wrong?
