Windows XP -formatting C Drive problem

Hi all, My problem is regarding formatting C: drive on my windows xp machine. I have two partitions C and E. Both contains a version of Windows XP.The one that is in C is not working.I want to format my C drive and install linux. I tried to format C drive.But i am getting messages like System partition is not allowed to format. What should i do? Kindly suggest.. Manoj
