Thanks to all who responded to my question.
The computer I am trying to install Windows XP on is one I built from scratch using
parts I bought on the Internet. I bought the Windows XP online as well from newegg.com,
so I am assuming it is legit, and my mobo is an Asus A7V8X, so I think the BIOS is
fairly current. The strange thing is I could install my friend's retail version
of Windows XP Pro and my old Windows 98. The disc doesn't look like it has scratches
on it... are some discs just written with bad files?
