How to uninstall msmsgs.exe
(found in microsoft.public.windowsxp.general):
1) Stop it (right click on systray icon and select Exit)
2) Open a Command prompt (Start --> Run... --> cmd)
3) Type in
rundll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove
4) This worked on a WinXP system with SP1 and Office XP Standard installed
