Are you running dns on the 2000 server? if not you have to enable netbios over tcpip on network connections for windows xp. 98 can be finding it by netbios. xp has netbios set to server config by default. if you do not have the dhcp set up right than xp will not use netbios. Just turn netbios on over tcp/ip on the xp machine reboot and this will probably fix it. my bet is dns is not setup properlyon the 2000 box as 98 by default uses netbios/wins and xp uses dns.
