Thanks Tom for the comments. Indeed, the systems are similar (except for the mobility factor in the LT) and I have carefully compared both machines, but obviously I have missed something. The startup process for the DOS program is identical, using the same batch file. The HD speed (4200) in LT is slower then the desktop but remember the program runs fine on my older laptop. I will GLADLY listen to any ideas you may come up with! thanks morley
