It doesn't matter what version of Media Player you have. You need special codecs
to play certain .avi files. One example of an .avi codec is DIVX. The DIVX codec
for Windows Media PLayer can be downloaded from www.divx.com. Download the free
version that inludes spyware, then run spybot or Ad-Aware to remove the spyware.
The DIVX codec will still work after you remove the spyware.
Another codec to look at is XVID. XVID is a free codec and is used my many .avi
recorders.
If you've already downloaded Media Player 9, that's OK, it has some cool improvements
over version 8.
Good Luck!
