I have a game ... the DOS version Master Of Orion2 II. It will run under XP - except
for the Multi-player feature. It uses IPX and XP it not happy and the game crashes
with a "Comms Error". The solution was to use Virtual PC (formally Connetix) from
microsoft and run the DOS game in a Windows 98 Window under DOS.
Some problems associated with the DOS Master Of Orion II game was in fact nothing
to do with XP. There were problems running the game in PC's with more than 512MB
of memory, the solution is to change the memory properties for the .exe to a high-spec
PC at the time the game was written - in this case we set the EMS / XMS / DPMI to
16meg each. Other problems encountered under XP involved Graphics card drivers
and we had to wait for the manufacturer to catch-up with XP and write an XP specific
driver.
