I have the same problem on a Dell m600 laptop, and it's driving me crazy.
The taskbar is slow to respond on startup, and an "End Program - Sample" box pops
up when I close down, with a loading bar (I don't know if these are connected).
I scanned for viruses using an up-to-date symantec utility and TrendMicro. Ran Adaware
and Spybot. Searched for any files with "Sample" (there was a Sample.mov from quicktime
and some Sample.WSB files -- I don't know what they did, but all were accessed currently).
I removed them to the recycle bin, and uninstalled quicktime. Ran msconfig and services.msc
to get rid of just about all the start up programs...but I still haven't fixed the
problem.
