Wow! This worked a treat.
To prevent getting error messages about WMP being missing in XP you might try:
Go into: Add/Remove Programs
Click on: Add/Remove Windows Components
Uncheck Windows Media Player.
This should remove any file types associated with WMP.
Now, let’s tell other how to remove the stupidly annoying WMP 9.
