I tried this but have got stuck – can anyone help? [ By the way, I did buy a router
but it’s not working and the retailer can’t replace for a week but I MUST get sharing
before that].
I have a desktop computer with DSL connection which I need to share with a laptop,
both running Win XP Home. I have connected the two computers using a crossover cable
and run the home network setup wizard on both. However I cannot share files or the
Internet connection. On the laptop “View workgroup computers” shows both machines
but on the desktop I get the message about maybe not having permission to use this
network resource. I have disabled ZoneAlarm but have ICF enabled on the desktop (not
on the laptop).
Using ipconfig shows (a) on the laptop: DNS suffix = mshome.net; IP address = 192.168.0.70;
subnet mask = 255.255.255.0; default gateway = 192.168.0.1 (b) on the desktop the
respective settings for the ethernet adaptor network bridge are: blank; 192.168.0.1;
255.255.255.0; blank.
I cannot ping the desktop from the laptop (not surprisingly). Help, please!
