High-pitched noise with Linksys Bluetooth adapter

Like the subject says, my Linksys Bluetooth adapter makes a very annoying, very high-pitched noise. The noise is actually not coming from the unit itself (as I found out after using the included USB extension cord), but from somewhere inside the computer, near the USB ports on the motherboard. Only when the drivers, and the Linksys "Bluetooth Wizard" (they're inextricable, as far as I can tell) are installed does the sound happen, though. Moving from one USB port to another doesn't help, and is quite annoying, since the software weds the adapter per-port, requiring a new install every time it's moved (and for some reason, the "install drivers automatically", even with the CD in the drawer, freezes). The sound itself is sort of a whine, with intermittant, and very faint "zaps" here and there. The "zap" noises respond to my use of the scroll-wheel on my mouse, for some reason, though the ever-present whine does not. I have had no trouble with other USB devices, and after I uninstalled the Bluetooth adapter, I plugged in my tablet, and it worked like a champ, first time. What the HELL is going on?
