What program did this happen with? How much free hard drive space do you have? Has
this ever happened before with the same or another program?
Along with virus, this problem can be caused to a program demanding a lot of RAM,
too many font styles, too many useless background apps and other things.
Read here for a lot of help on cleaning out garbage.
