Does "recently purchased" mean 1 couple months ago or last year? Was the machine
purchased new? With syptoms like this, any machine under warrantee should be returned
for replacement or repair. (If installing XP Pro didn't break the warrantee). If
the machine is past the warrantee period or was purchased, I would suggest a trained
technician.

Could be anything from a bad power cord to a dead motherboard. There is no way to
tell from your post, but if it won't try to boot, it is in need of some testing equipment
and, likely, part replacement.
