Floppy drive not Reading or writing on XP Sunday, January 18, 2004 at 12:45 am Windows XP Annoyances Discussion Forum Posted by Pauline Brighton (1 messages posted) I have a 200 GHzA MD Atholon XP 24000+ with 512 MB RAM running Windows XP version 2002 service pack 1 I have downloaded all the patches. When I put a Floppy disc in the A drive the light does not come on. I click on the floppy drive in 'My computer' and the light comes on and the drive starts. EM The disk in drive A is not formatted do you want to format it now. It then trys to format it but is unable to do so. So I cannot get it to read a disc or write to a disc. I am using IBM 1.44mb discs which I have used successfully on other computers. I have checked the gray ribbon cable is in correctly. I have deleted the driver from the devise manger and restarted the computer to get it to recognise it. I have bought a new floppy drive and gone through the same thing with that one. When I boot up the computer the light goes on the floppy drive and then goes off as I would expect.
