administrator-user priveleges, number of users

I already am the Windows XP Pro administrator, signing in by choosing the username
"administrator" and the only other account was "guest." I wanted to create another
account to see what xp would do with the folder system to accomodate him/her, but
I was forced to create another account, named anything I want (I named it Ted), that
was also an "administrator" account. I got a message saying I have to have one administrator
account -- before I can create another account with "limited" features (which I named
Bob) But actually, it was making a SECOND administrator account -- with its own set
of directories and settings for windows and for programs. Why do I need 2 administrator
accounts? One named "administrator" with adminitrator priveleges, and the other named
Ted, with administrator priveleges, before I could create an account (Bob) with "limited"
priveleges?
It that wasn't bad enough -- now if I shut off my computer, and restart it, the
"administrator" choice is no longer there. The only way I can get him back my windows
settings and program settings, is to go to Control Panel > User Accounts > Change
the Way Users Logon-logoff -- and change that choice to "type in name" instead of
"select name." Then I have to TYPE IN "administrator" when starting the computer.
I can no longer just choose administrator -- if I want my windows settings and program
settings and directories.
Seems the simplest solution, for me to get back all those settings that I spend months
on, meticulously detailing, for windows, and a bunch of programs, would be to transfer
them from Administrator to Ted Ted being the second user I set up with "administrator"
priveleges -- but how do I do that? I don't want to have to type in "administrator"
every time I start up -- also with the type-in system I think window settings and
program settings are lost when one changes to another user -- one has to "log-out"
losing the settings, then log in as another user, instead of simply switching users.
Grrrr.
