It sounds similar to a problem I had. I did not have exe listed as a file type in
my computer-tools-folder options-file types. I had any application program opening
with wordpad which was garbage and could not br read. By going to advanced -edit
file-new and creating exe and associating it with type application, my system was
restored. I still do not show exe as a file type in the list for folder options.
I think we have been nailed by a virus. Do you have a file Xi as I do? Also Norton
has listed a virus as X1. I think this problem you describe is related. Still looking
into this. Good luck.
