Ok, Bret here goes. This worked for me. When the list of file types appears, select
NEW. A window called Create New Window comes up. Type 'exe' in File Extension box.
Then click on Advanced. Very likely in the Associated File Type box, the word Application
will be displayed. If not, delete what is in the box and enter Application. Hit
ok. I believe you have just made all application programs open as normally expected
to. At this point my toolbar restored and all those programs that opened with Wordpad
and were not legible were restored to normal. I am still working through what I believe
to be a Virus. Have deleted various files with Xi or X1 assocoation with no adverse
effects. Good luck. Let me know if it works or need any more info.
