Start your pc in Safe Mode (F8), log in as admin, then run 1. cleanmgr, 2. scan entire
hdd(s) using your antivirus scanner, 3. chkdsk, then 4. defrag. This is pretty much
the same maintenance routine used since the days of W95, though the program names
might be slightly different. There are other utilities/batch files that can be added
like privacy/security tools that clean .dat and other hidden files but those 4 steps
go a long way towards optimizing a pc.
