I have exactly the same problem on three different mixed sites. I have all the correct
settings (ip, workgroup etc) and have done the whole "Master browser" bit.
In effect all the windows 9x and me machines have Browse master disabled. I force
one of the windows XP machines to rig the election by setting the IsDomainMaster
to True (regedit). So one machine, the one that I have selected is always the master
browser.
TCp/IP is the only Protocol (please don't say install netbuei)
There is and ADSL gateway
I have created a hosts AND an lmhosts file on all computers with the names of every
computer on the network.
Every computer has a folder shared
I can ping any computer from any other
I can use unc to get to any computer (\\pcname)
I can find every computer using FIND in windows 9x
The "master browser" xp machine shows all computers and lets me click on them to
access shares
None of the other computers can browse the network, not even the other windows XP
computers.
At times when I reset computers some will suddenly show up and start browsing.
It look to me to be a bug in windows XP PRO computer browse service. There are less
than 10 computers in each site having this problem, buit more than 5.
HELP!!!
