If the battery went completely dead, your BIOS settings may have been lost or effected.
You will need to make sure the COM ports are enabled in the BIOS with the correct
addressing before XP will recognize external ports on the motherboard otherwise,
the addresses are released for use with other devices. You might want to check all
BIOS settings to make sure they are OK and write them down in case it happens again.
