How about installing just the old drive into the computer, then booting XP Setup
from the CDROM, and then doing a repair reinstallation on that XP?
If successful, you'll be able to extract those files that you are trying to save.
Then after the files are saved, you can either try the cloning process again or
just install the new disk as the pri master, install the old disk as the pri slave,
and have disk management repartition and reformat it for use as a data drive.
