Red cross?? are you talking about the 'x' to close a window? you stated in your subject
'fatal crashes', but are you getting a 'blue screen of death'? or is your computer
randomly rebooting? or both? Also are you running Windows XP or Windows 2000? please
post your detailed system specs, including general age of the machine. Also include
as much information about the crashes\reboots such as apps running etc. or if they
are purely random. What exactly have you tried? apparenlty you had another thread
on this, if so direct me to it so as not to be redundant. All I can tell you now
(not crap) is that it could be hardware or software.
Typical hardware crashes might include bad RAM, CPU overheating, CPU bad, shorts
on mainboard, bad power supply, bad house power supply, failing UPS, among many other
things.
Typical software crashes might include virii, trojan or other malicious software
among many other things.
grr, gotta go my updates are installed and I must reboot.
