A colleague has found the cure to the problem, by chance! Intel Graphics Controller
chipsets (as used in most current desktops) have a 'Hot Keys' feature which uses
Ctrl+Alt+D, I, L, F1 & F2. To disable the feature, right click on the Windows desktop,
select Graphics Properties | Hot Keys | Disable. There doesn't seem to be any settings
for these keys in the Advanced Display Settings of the machines I checked and on
Intel's site I only found a support note about the Hot Keys affecting Word shortcuts,
so I don't know yet what they are supposed to do. At least the app is working now.
