Excellent help and input from everyone! However I am still about ready to throw
my home web access out the window and return to buying only from "brick and mortar
businesses" as I spend plenty of my copious free time attempting to beat the harder
spies off my boxes and scanning for security compromises with the various packages
instead of actually using the web. Along with the reviewer in PC Magazine I am partial
to Spy Sweeper. But still, still, still (!) all the packages out there are letting
stuff get by. Let one key logger get by and there's that chance my credit card number
is on its way to a server across the ocean, or across town to be eventually be picked
up by a identity-stealing profiler. Once the rest of the world realizes that their
"secure" transactions are not actually secure and identity-stealing mounts there
is a chance for a backlash against e-commerce and the web as a whole. Also the user
names and passwords of browser-based email users are being sent to 3rd party servers
so now those message stores could be opened by others. Browser users connecting
to online databases could unknowingly be streaming usernames/passwords and sensitive
technical information via key logging to unknown 3rd party servers for eventual scanning
and use by others. There is an urgent need for legal action against the authors
of spyware worldwide and for OS and Anti-Spyware developers to crank it up quickly.
