I have the same explorer crash, with code 1002, and
loss of some tray icons, in Windows 2000 Pro. I can
reproduce the problem by:
CTRL-R (run)
C:\some\directory\path
RETURN
WindowsKey-E (opens an Explorer.exe window)
I can avoid many of the crashes if i explicity tell RUN
what application to use for a directory read:
CTRL-R
Explorer C:\some\directory\path
It's a drag for me, because I speed up my work by
using key commands as often as possible, and
avoiding the mouse. I also like to avoid double-clicking
on "My Computer", because that takes the time to poll
a whole bunch of devices, some of which may not be
in ready states.
The only ways I have found to make the tray icons to
reappear are less than satisfactory:
- pskill the process, then restart it.
- Restart Windows
