You have said it best. One other way to avoid pop ups and especially the messenger
service is to get a router or physical firewall. Now your ip is very hard to see
on the net and you have created a powerful nat as well. Configuring routers nowadays
is a walk in the park. If after all the steps we have mentioned and you are still
experiencing pop ups I would be very surprised. Good luck.
