All right this is real easy.
You go to START and then to RUN on the menu and then you get a box where you can
run a command. You type in "services.msc" and then you get a window that lists all
the services your computer is programmed to run. You look for the service "messenger".
This service has nothing to do with Windows Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, MSN Messenger
or any other Messenger you might have on your computer. This service broadcasts
your ip address on the internet so that you can receive pop-ups (basically, although
I am sure its original intent was not so.)
You right-click on MESSENGER and then select PROPERTIES. It will most like show
that the service being run automatically. Just change that to DISABLE, and then
you can click STOP if you want, but you don't have to. Click APPLY and OK, and that
will stop your computer from broadcasting your ip, but you will still get popups
when your ip is requested; and for that you just need to get a popup blocker. The
Google toolbar is a good enough popup blocker for most people.
I hope that explains it.
