OK, so it appears I spoke too soon--about an hour after perfect function (during
which time I excitedly reported the fix to the forum) the error krept up again. *sigh*
i dont know if i can do this anymore. In anycase, after thorough searching, there
is another microsoft update specifically geared to this issue-its pretty new, and
it refers to the same 'security issue' press release that the virus seems to target
according to symantec (talk about a catch-22). in any case, i downloaded and installed
the below patch, and am now running over 60 minutes without that shutdown garbage
creeping up. in other words--no harm done, and possibly fixed it, but now i'm afraid
to speak too soon! :-X follow the below link to the patch:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/MS04-011.mspx
There's also another patch after this one (meaning a newer one in sequence) but it
doesnt seem to apply to this issue. I could write this up in more technical terms....but
why. Hopefully it won't fool me again.
